AI Engineer Intern @ Astera Holdings
Location: Remote
Type: Internship
Reports to: Head of AI
About Astera Holdings:
Astera Holdings is a quantitative finance firm on a mission to redefine prediction markets—an emerging category of financial markets where people trade on the outcomes of real-world events. Our goal is to transform this space from one driven by speculation into a legitimate, scientific asset class. We are building what we aspire to be the "Renaissance Technologies of prediction markets" and are looking for elite, intellectually curious individuals to join us in engineering this new frontier.
Our company operates on a synergistic, three-pillar structure:
- Atlas: Our consumer-facing SaaS/AI/DaaS application, designed to make smart trading simple and accessible.
- Astera Capital: Our institutional asset management arm, built to generate absolute, uncorrelated returns.
- Astera Analytics: Our premier B2B consulting partner, which deploys our core intelligence to solve complex enterprise challenges.
These pillars work in concert to power the Astera Flywheel, our core competitive advantage. Each subsidiary generates unique, proprietary data that is fed back into our central Astera Intelligence Engine, making our models exponentially more powerful over time. Our culture is a "Meritocracy of Minds," built on Radical Intellectual Honesty, a Scientific Approach to Everything, and Lean Intensity.
About the Role:
As an AI Engineer Intern, you will be a critical builder of our "AI-First Operating System"—the core platform that amplifies the cognitive output of our entire company. This is a deeply technical, hands-on role focused on a single, high-impact mission: designing and deploying a fleet of autonomous AI agents to automate recurrent tasks across Astera Holdings. You will identify bottlenecks in our research, data, and operational workflows and build intelligent solutions to eliminate them.
This role is for a builder who is obsessed with efficiency, automation, and the practical application of agentic AI. You will work directly with our senior leadership to build the systems that make our team smarter, faster, and more effective, contributing directly to our core competitive advantage.
What You'll Do:
- Build AI Agents: Design, develop, and deploy autonomous AI agents using modern frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex) to automate complex internal workflows.
- Automate Key Processes: Target and automate high-value, repetitive tasks in areas like data sourcing and validation, research report generation, code review assistance, and system monitoring.
- Integrate with Our Ecosystem: Connect your agents to our internal tools, databases (SQL/NoSQL), external APIs, and messaging systems to create seamless, end-to-end automations.
- Develop Evaluation Frameworks: Create robust systems for testing, evaluating, and monitoring the performance and reliability of your agents in a production environment.
- Contribute to the AI-First OS: Your work will directly contribute to the architecture and capabilities of our company-wide "AI-First Operating System," helping to shape the future of how we operate.
What We're Looking For:
- Strong Programming Skills: Deep proficiency in Python and a strong grasp of software engineering fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, API design).
- Hands-On AI/LLM Experience: Proven, hands-on experience building with Large Language Models (LLMs) and agentic frameworks. You should be able to talk in detail about prompt engineering, RAG, and tool use.
- A Systems Thinker: The ability to analyze complex workflows, identify inefficiencies, and design elegant, automated solutions.
- A Bias for Action: A self-starter mentality with a relentless focus on shipping functional, high-quality code and delivering measurable impact.
-
Problem-Solving Mindset: A passion for tackling open-ended problems and figuring out how to apply cutting-edge AI techniques to solve real-world business challenges.
