Materials Characterization Testing Technician
GCP, part of Saint-Gobain, GCP Applied Technologies is a leading global provider of construction products that include high-performance specialty construction chemicals and building materials. GCP partners with producers, contractors, designers, and engineers to achieve performance and sustainability goals. The company has a legacy of first to market and award-winning solutions that have been used to build some of the world’s most renowned structures. GCP is focused on continuous improvement for its customers, end-users, and the environment.
Our company develops lightweight, sustainable, and digital solutions for the construction industry that account for 8% of the global carbon footprint. Cement is versatile and economically viable. It is the most common artificial construction material, with no other alternative or substitute that can match it. The manufacturing of cement, unfortunately, emits carbon dioxide and the cement industry has been identified to be responsible for 8% of all anthropogenic carbon dioxide. Unlike other industries, the current push to convert burning fossil fuel to electricity will only be able to cut the carbon dioxide emission by half. We need ground-breaking technologies to either change the fundamental process for making cement or methods to absorb all the carbon dioxide generated by the current process. Our research aims to reduce one-third of carbon dioxide emitted by the cement industry by combining re-using waste materials, developing green or lower carbon solutions with the application of data science. Our products have reduced more than 100 megatons of carbon dioxide and we are developing solutions to reduce another 500 megatons.
GCP’s Intern Program emphasizes experiential and mentored learning experiences, providing recent degree recipients an opportunity to apply their academic knowledge and skills in a meaningful and practical way. We are committed to developing the future workforce by encouraging trainees to explore various career paths in an industrial research laboratory setting that values diversity and inclusion. Through this program, interns will be exposed to Saint-Gobain's open and educational culture; support Saint-Gobain's mission to improve the human condition; and build upon their career goals.
