Leuko is an MIT spin-out developing PointCheckTM, the world’s first non-invasive white blood cell monitoring device. White blood cell assessment is a first-line indicator for multiple medically relevant situations, ranging from cancer chemotherapy management to the detection of life-threatening infections worldwide. Leuko is re-imagining the way to perform these tests without extracting blood and in a portable device. Role Summary:
The Hardware Engineering Intern is responsible for supporting all hardware product development efforts within the engineering team as Leuko prepares the PointCheckTM device for manufacturing scale-up and regulatory approval. This position works closely with the Principal Product Development Engineer to build, test, and prepare documentation for PointCheck devices and disposable cartridges.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform component and system level testing and document results in reports and presentations.
- Design and build test fixtures as needed.
- Assist with design and manufacturing document updates.
- Build, inspect, and troubleshoot PointCheckTM assemblies and subassemblies.
- Assemble disposable cartridges and identify potential process improvements.
Job Requirements:
- Working towards a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science or related degree.
- Comfortable using hand tools, rapid prototyping techniques, soldering iron and multimeter.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Professional demeanor, attention to detail, and a commitment to ethical and legal standards are essential.
- Proficiency with Solidworks a plus.
- In-person position at Cambridge office.
